Our Trip to the Fair

Last week, Brent and I took Gideon to the County Fair. Can you believe just three years ago, Brent came up to me after work and nervously invited me to this same fair? That turned out to be our first “unofficial” date. I’d love to blog about our love story, but that’s for another time. This time, I just wanna take you along with me to see all the incredible animals we saw!

By the way, I LOVED the fair. I enjoyed it immensely! I went under the guise that I wanted to watch Gideon’s reaction as he noticed all these creatures for the first time, but to be honest, Brent ended up entertaining him most of time so I could just stand and stare and thoroughly enjoy myself.

I’m showing you my favorite animal first. My heart melted as soon as I saw him. Just look at his nobby little knees!

And that poofy hair! It was so soft. And that sweet little nose. Do you know how long I’ve wanted a baby miniature donkey?

And he kept flipping his ear up and then down. I think he was waving at me. I think he was wanting me to take him home. I love that guy. I wish I could squeeze him and hold him tight. And hug em and kiss him every night. I think he misses me.

Now, this guy on the other hand…oh…I feel so sorry for him. He’s hideous! I don’t know how he’ll ever get a girlfriend.

Oh, look at the little piggies! I had to practice much self-control so as not to stoop down and pick one of these little guys up.

I’m pretty sure I would have had the owner not been standing right there. I think I must have seriously thought about it, because I remember inquiring whether or not the mother was very protective. I then had visions of myself getting attacked by a mama pig just because I wanted to hold one of her babies up close.

Awww, the goats. I loved the goats. Well, I actually only loved a couple of the goats. There were these two that just kept staring at me and really wanted me to pet them. The others didn’t seem to care that I existed on this earth with them. That kind of hurt my feelings.

Gideon, on the other hand, wasn’t so sure about the goats.

In fact, I think he was even a bit nervous around them. I think he was wondering why this one didn’t have any hair on the top of his noggin.

Gideon, this here’s a goat. Goat, this here’s a Gideon. There now, you are friends. Now, run along and play.

Llamas…I do not understand them. I don’t know why they’re here. Supposedly they have a purpose, something about them being great pack animals but I think God really created them just to make us laugh. I mean, look at this dude…I think I will call him Fraggle Rock.

If I were a llama, I would wear shoes. I would never be seen in public with feet like this.

And what is he doing? This can’t be comfortable. Why does he look like this?
Llamas are just not right.

I actually tried to get past my prejudice against llamas and cordially asked this one if he would be my friend…

He said “no.” He didn’t even think about it.

Okay, that’s it, Llama-boy. Get out of my face. From now on you are dead to me.
Llamas are freaks.

Okay, I’m almost done. Just wanted to show you one last thing. I did learn something encouraging while at the fair…

Apparently, humans are not the only creatures with bad hair days. Chickens have them, too.

By the way, chickens are scary. I say that because I was chased by one as a wee child. I’m now terrified of loose chickens. I can appreciate them behind bars, but you get one in the yard with me, and I start sweating and get this nervous feeling in my stomach. (Side note…I do tend to exaggerate so please don’t take everything I write literally…thank you.)

Baby chicks, on the other hand, are some of the sweetest little creatures that ever existed. I love holding one in the palm of my hand and listening to it chirp. I really, really want a baby chick. Brent says ‘No’. He says, “What will you do when it grows up?” I say, “I will just give it away.” He laughs me to scorn. He says that no one will want one grown-up chicken…

I don’t blame them.

And that’s all I have to say about the fair. Thank you for listening.
